Bracing ourselves
A good news SMS was received on my cellphone on Friday. Tim & Bronwyn gave birth to their little boy, Kyle, on the 10th of January 2008. Yep, the Fish family is now growing! It is amazing how far we’ve come over the years. Tim and I have been friends since, now let me think … sometime in the early 80′s when he was living in Somerset West at the time. I think I was about 7 or 8 years old. Gosh, time has gone by so fast that it seems my memory has gone with it, but it is just so assuring that a friendshp, no matter the distance, since Tim is now living in Jozi as well as spent most of his life living in Cape Town while we were still living in the Strand, is still great and that we keep in touch and try to get together when either one of us are in the respetive cities. It is those friendships that I cherish. From knowing him as a young dude to being a dad. Awesome stuff. Congrats Tim & Bron. You guys are going to be awesome parents!
We are starting to brace ourselves. Bracing ourselves for the onslaught of baby this and baby that. A topic which is going to be the center of conversation between us and friends during the next couple of months.
It started during this past week when we went to visit Lourens and Danika to see their little one. Ag man, she just so cute! Saskia is her name. But throughout virtually the entire evening, the topic of babies and pregnancy was the order of the day. And it didn’t stop there, on Friday it was Liezel and Stephen’s turn.
Does this signify that we are entering into a new stage of our lives where the topic of converstation changes from how much beer you drank to what brand of nappie you’re going to use? Does this signify that the topic of conversation shifts from yourselves as a married couple to parenthood and children? If you ask me, scary indeed. And one thing, as a guy, I am very glad is that it takes about 9 months to make that mind shift because if it happend in 1 day, I would be scared shitless.
But I can also say that I’ll still talk about how much beer I drank.
We are bracing ourselves, bracing ourselves with all the learning that we’ll be doing. Learning that could make the pregnancy just that little better as well as preparing for the the due date. So bring on the baby talk!!!
Our NT scan is on the 25th of Jan and our next appointment with Dr Christine van Heerden is on the 29th.

Congratulations! We expect pictures when the baby born.
